The Origins Project expands understanding, improves education, and raises public awareness of key issues by generating and disseminating new knowledge to help address global problems, improve quality of life, and inform the development of sound public policy.
Your generosity is vitally important as we expand the frontiers of our mission and make strides to enhance our vision for the future.
To encourage the exploration of our origins and support aspiring scholars, we offer multiple funding opportunities to students and faculty alike. Previous Origins award recipients have gone on to achieve great success in their respective fields, and with your support, we can continue to provide these excellent opportunities to the science leaders of tomorrow.

Origins Workshops bring together the world’s leading scientists, scholars, and intellectuals to foster the cross-pollination of ideas and explore the greatest challenges of the 21st century. These workshops bring together transdisciplinary groups of the world’s leading scientists and create exciting new collaborations between ASU and leading faculty around the world, resulting in new research publications on topics at the forefront of human knowledge. Through our world-renowned Scientific Workshops, public events, Origins Education Portal, and popular YouTube channel, we make this emerging knowledge accessible to the public. We seek support to continue these unique programs, which have gained an international reputation for their quality and scope.
Our public events are crucial to our mission of engaging the community on scientific issues. Our events give the public access to today’s thought leaders, which over the years have included names like Stephen Hawking, Noam Chomsky, Steven Pinker, Elizabeth Kolbert, dozens of Nobel Laureates, Pulitzer Prizewinners, Academy Award winners, and a host of individuals with remarkable insights to offer. Our events are live-streamed around the world and hundreds of thousands of people watch videos of our events online. We ask for your support in creating the most exciting scientific public programming in the world, making ASU an international resource, and making the Valley of the Sun a sought-after cultural destination.
